Baş-boyun Epidermoid Kanseri ile Epstein - Barr Virüsü Arasındaki İlişkiSaydam L., Kızılay A., Durmaz R., Öncel S., Kalcıoğlu T., Bulut F., Aydın A.Amaç: Epstein-Barr virüsü (EBV) ile baş-boyun epidermoid kanseri arasındaki ilişkiyi araştırmak ve EBV genotiplerini saptamak.
Hastalar ve Yöntemler: Baş-boyun epidermoid kanserli 39 olgu ve baş-boyun bölgesinde malign olmayan patolojiler saptanan 10 olgunun parafin bloktan alınan doku örneklerinde nested polimeraz zincir reaksiyonu (PZR) kullanılarak' EBV-DNA araştırıldı.
Bulgular: Baş-boyun epidermoid kanseri i olguların 17'sinde (%43.5) EBV-DNA saptandı. Kontrol grubunda ise hiçbir olguda EBV-DNA saptanmadı (p
The Relationship Between Epstein-Barr Virus and Head and Neck Squamous Cell CarcinomaSaydam L., Kızılay A., Durmaz R., Öncel S., Kalcıoğlu T., Bulut F., Aydın A.Objectives: To investigate the relationship between Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) and head and neck squamous cen cancer and to define EBV genotypes.
Patients and Methods: Nested polymerase chain reaction (PCR) was used for the detection of EBV-DNA in head and neck pathological tissue specimens of 39 patients with squamous cell cancer and 10 patients with nonmalignant pathologies.
Results: EBV-DNA was detected in 17 tissue specimens (43.5%) of head and neck squamous cell cancer. No EBV-DNA was found in control specimens (p<0.01). No significant relationships were found between EBV positivity and other parameters including tumor localization, histopathological differentiation, stage, Iymphatic metastasis, patients' age, sex, smoking habits, and survivaı. EBV-positivity showed type 1 in 10 (58.8%), type 2 in four (23.5%), and both type 1 and 2 genotypes in three (17.6%) specimens.
Conclusion: This study supports the findings that EBV infection may have a role in the oecurrance of squamous cell cancers of the head and neck.
